Afterthoughts
There were no McCain/Palin signs in my yard, or stickers on my car. Neither were signs of support for the Obama/Biden ticket. I have (had) friends on both sides, each with opinions and convictions as to why their candidate was the better choice. Many people I considered friends are die hard democrats, and all through the campaign I sat and listened as anyone not 150% behind Obama was lambasted, maligned, defiled, and thoroughly raked over the coals. I watched as a man who served this country proudly, and was a pow, was reduced to nothing in their eyes, with no respect at all. I watched a woman’s family dragged through the mud, with her handicapped son even thrown into the fray. It seemed that anything “repugnican” was fair game, with no regard for feelings, or respect being given. I saw these same people get livid if Michelle Obamas clothes were mentioned by the press, or a lying, racist, ignorant, republican Faux news reporter. I saw tempers flare at the first sign of the Obama children mentioned at all. I saw good, honest people thrown into the vat of racists, ignorant, evil, lying scum, simply because they didn’t support Obama.
I, more than once voiced my lack of support for the current administration, but I still held a small amount of respect for the office. I also maintained that we still live in the greatest country in the world, there are many far worse off than we are. I have never been ashamed of my country, or it’s flag.
My question is why?
Why is it okay to lump a large portion of the populous into a huge nasty pot, but the first sign of an Obama joke has people flaring and posturing for a fight?
My advice: take a long hard look in the mirror, there are some serious double standards in place here.
I say, if the jokes about anyone that didn’t didn’t vote Obama, you know the ones, Cletus, the slack jawed yokel, the ignorant white cracker from the south are okay, then we may open ourselves up for some serious racial humor. Possibly resurrecting old stereotypes from the past.
I will support and respect the man, and his office, I don’t have a problem with that.
I’m just not sure he’s the second coming, like many believe. I don’t apologize for having my own thoughts, nor for who I am, or that I will stand up for those thoughts.
I respect the opinions and ideas of a great many people, even if they are different from own.
Perhaps, others do not, and the bonds of friendship were not as strong as I thought.

Amen!
You know that I’m a die-hard, conservative, but decided not to vote for either one, because for me it was the only way to face my maker, without hanging my head. I have taken and am taking some crap for that, from both sides.
For better or worse it’s over. I will do what others wouldn’t, respect the office, and pray for the man.
God bless President Elect Obama.
